Reverse engineering in product design is investigating an existing object, disassembling it, and measuring its basic dimensions to understand its parts, structure, and functionality. It is called back engineering because it is about going back to the original design process to know how a product works without having the original design specifications. By the deconstruction and analysis of the current products, designers get the vital information which they can then use in the design process, to either improve the existing products or to develop the competing ones.
